With so much pressure from social norms and sometimes family it can be easy to get caught up in your own and others’ expectations for what your big day should look like and who should be there and, in the meantime, loose the joy of deepening your commitment in the stress of organisation.
I had the privilege of marrying a beautiful couple today on a perfect sunny, still autumn day in WA under a Frangipani tree in someone’s front garden the couple just approached to ask to be their witness to their marriage.
A mature couple in their 60s had been together for 15yrs decided to make it official and wanted to keep things simple, no fuss and just about the declaration of their love to each other without the big affair, both coming from big families they would share the big news with them later.
Their request their way, we kept it smart casual wearing jeans and sneakers arrived at our destination overlooking the stunning Harvey Estuary, met the witnesses “the neighbours” took care of the formality paperwork and recited the legal monitum and vows .. the ceremony was simple and heartfelt we all teared up as the couple declared their intention and vows to each other, there was an energy in the air of a calm peace and heartfelt love we could all feel.
One of the witnesses said it was such sweet ceremony and felt it was the best wedding she had ever been to.
We all hugged and congratulated the couple and they walked off hand in hand into their brand-new beginning as husband and wife while myself and the two witnesses broke into song …. 🎵
Been to the Chapel and just got marrarrrried , been to the Chapel and just got marrrarrrieddddd 🎶🎵 laughter and cheers of congratulations as they drove off to their secret honeymoon destination down south. 🥂❤️🥰
There was something special about stripping back all the expectations and extras and keeping it just about the love ❤️ and their love for nature after all that is what marriage is all about.
Ps There are no photos for me to share of this gorgeous couple as they were taken on their phones, the couple keeping their moment for themselves … their marriage their way … a private intimate moment between themselves ( and me and the witnesses of course 😆 ) 🥰
PPS …A text message received shortly after from the couple –
“Well, Heather you made our day.
We went away laughing so it was such fun…thanks sooo much 💗 ”. (words of praise)
